The Casa da Morna Sodade, is the result of a partnership between the Municipality of Tarrafal de São Nicolau and the Ministry of Culture and Creative Industries through the of Cultural Heritage Institute - IPC, as a result of a process of dynamization of morna in the locality of Praia Branca where morna sodade was born.
The implementation of this space follows the contribution of “Sodade, Festival d’Morna” started in 2013, to honor Armando Zeferino Soares, author, legal, of morna sodade and which culminated in the acquisition and rehabilitation of the late musician’s house by the City Council. Morna is the most representative genre of the islands' cultural context, recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
Saber MaisTherefore this space aims to contribute to the promotion, preservation and interpretation of this social and cultural practice in the country, according to the principles of the Safeguarding Plan submitted to UNESCO as part of the Candidature process.
Casa da Morna Sodade presents itself as a reference space for the knowledge and enjoyment of morna through a route that praises the experiences of Cabo Verdeans in the inspiration, emergence and evolution of this identity genre, ennobles the town of Praia Branca where sodade was born and conquered the stages of the world.
The expository speech also highlights its inscription on the Intangible Heritage of Humanity list, which enshrines its exceptional universal value and opens up new possibilities for projection.
