Ribeira Grande de Santiago, commonly known as Cidade Velha, was the first European settlement in the tropics. For centuries (15th to 18th centuries) it played a geostrategic role in transoceanic shipping, particularly in the provision of supplies, repairing vessels and treating the sick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It also acted as a hub for the triangular slave trade (Europe, Africa, America) that developed from the mid-16th century onwards. On the other hand, the fertility of the soil and the abundance of water led to the settlement of colonists and slaves. As the social dynamic was organised, various military, religious and civil infrastructures were built, concentrated in a small urban cluster, and which today bear witness to the historic importance of Cidade Velha.<\/p>\n\n\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\tler mais\n\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n

O S\u00edtio Hist\u00f3rico da Cidade Velha foi classificado em 2009 pela UNESCO como Patrim\u00f3nio da Humanidade, (https:\/\/whc.unesco.org\/en\/statesparties\/cv<\/a>) pelos crit\u00e9rios II, III e VI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carta Arqueol\u00f3gica da Cidade Velha<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

O Conjunto hist\u00f3rico da Cidade Velha, classificado como Patrim\u00f3nio da Humanidade, devido \u00e0 sua import\u00e2ncia hist\u00f3rica e patrimonial, conserva ainda vest\u00edgios que exigem a sua preserva\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A carta arqueol\u00f3gica constitui um invent\u00e1rio georreferenciado de s\u00edtios com interesse arqueol\u00f3gico e patrimonial, em permanente atualiza\u00e7\u00e3o, surge nessa perspetiva de dar resposta \u00e0 salvaguarda e a gest\u00e3o din\u00e2mica dos vest\u00edgios. Assim, tem como principal objetivo a identifica\u00e7\u00e3o e reuni\u00e3o num \u00fanico suporte, dos vest\u00edgios dentro do grande s\u00edtio arqueol\u00f3gico que \u00e9 a Cidade Velha, real\u00e7ando assim o seu potencial arqueol\u00f3gico e patrimonial, cientes da import\u00e2ncia da preserva\u00e7\u00e3o do patrim\u00f4nio hist\u00f3rico como instrumento de preserva\u00e7\u00e3o da mem\u00f3ria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
